The Praiseful Poetess, Phillis Wheatley, The First American Poetess

The Praiseful Poetess, Phillis Wheatley, The First American Poetess

This poem is a testimonial of the life of Phillis Wheatley,  as slave girl,  at the age of eight, in the late 1700's - unfortunately how it was back then.  It tells of her agony,  fears,  amazement, and jubilation!   It testifies to her victorious spirit to overcome such brutality, and become such a lovely woman of faith and usefulness. The Praiseful Poetess, Phillis Wheatley, The First American Poetess,  2 pages, 36 lines

(continued from above)    This poem is written to show God's hand in her life,  and her great faith to overcome,  and see His hand in her life.   She was taken from her pagan dark land upon a terrifying slave ship,  and faced the brutal whip,  unmerciful shackles,  and an uncertain cruel fate.   The Wheatley family had bought her  and educated her.   By the age of twelve,  she was reading Greek and Latin classics, and weightier passages from the Bible.  She became the first American poetess.   George Washington, President to be,  loved her poetry and had her come visit at his headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts in March 1776.   She is a great example and heroine.   Her story is a great incentive and testimony.  A wonderful read for all people and all ages.
